Area Description

Keswick is a community in the south central portion of the Canadian province of Ontario. Located north of Toronto on Cook's Bay (part of Lake Simcoe), Keswick is part of the Town of Georgina.

Keswick, Ontario is the largest urban community within the Town of Georgina area making up over half of Georgina's population of approximately 46,000 with its current population of almost 30,000. Keswick offers shopping, waterfront facilities and agriculture attractions. During the 1980's the area was considered "cottage country" and the feeling remains a part of the community's culture. With development and infrastructure improvements, the area has become a "bedroom community" for Newmarket and Toronto (less than 1-hour drive).

Keswick was originally known as Medina and was part of the Township of North Gwillimbury before becoming part of the Township of Georgina. The area was formerly considered part of "cottage country" for those who lived in Toronto up until the late 1980s, when major development further opened up access to Keswick, expanding its population.

Keswick houses the Georgina Ice Palace where the Georgina Blaze hockey team, Georgina Girls Hockey Association and Georgina Skating Club are headquartered. The Georgina Ice Palace is a combination library/skating rink with a skate park outside. The two ice pads can seat almost 1,500 people between them.

Included in Keswick is the Keswick Marsh, part of the Holland Marsh. Having been built mainly as a cottage community, Keswick is fairly long north to south as it hugs the shore of Lake Simcoe.
